Controlled surface strengthening with shot peening

Shot peening is a controlled surface treatment in which spherical media impacts a metal component to create a compressive residual stress layer. It is selected for applications where fatigue performance and surface integrity matter. The process must be matched to the part material, geometry, coverage target and applicable customer requirements.

Shot peening and shot blasting have different goals

Shot blasting is generally used to remove scale, rust or contamination and prepare a surface for a later process. Shot peening aims to strengthen a component through controlled impacts. The media, equipment arrangement and process controls should therefore be selected for the required outcome; cleaning settings should not be assumed to deliver a qualified peening result.

Configuration depends on the workpiece

Equipment discussions can cover part loading and handling, blast-wheel or nozzle arrangement, media flow control, recovery and separation, enclosure and dust collection. A rotary-table arrangement may suit some batch components; other parts may call for a different handling layout. Final selection depends on the application and must be confirmed for the actual workpiece.

Request an application review

Send Dingtian the part drawings and process targets to discuss a suitable equipment concept. Final equipment, media and operating parameters should be confirmed by engineering and validated for the specific component.
