The Q37 series hanger type shot blasting machine hangs each workpiece on a rotating hook inside a sealed blast chamber. Buyers also search for it as a hook type shot blasting machine, a spinner hanger blast machine or an overhead monorail hook machine. Blast wheels mounted at different angles throw abrasive onto every exposed face. The machine removes rust, mill scale, mould sand and burrs, and it provides controlled shot blasting to remove rust and mill scale.

It is built for heavy parts from 30 kg upward, irregular shapes, thin-wall sections and workpieces too delicate to tumble. Nothing touches anything else during the cycle, so machined faces stay undamaged. Core build quality is comparable to leading German, American and Japanese brands. Contact us for a quotation based on the machine configuration, production capacity, and project requirements.

1. What is a hanger type shot blasting machine?

It is the most versatile configuration in metal surface preparation. Parts are not tumbled in a barrel and not laid flat on a belt. Each workpiece hangs from an overhead hook fixture and rotates slowly inside an enclosed chamber while blast wheels fire from several angles. Coverage stays uniform on shapes no other machine type can reach.

One cycle delivers four results:

  • Rust and mill scale removal
  • Sand and core removal from castings
  • Deburring and edge breaking
  • Surface preparation through shot blasting

The cleaned surface reaches Sa 2.5 to Sa 3.0 per ISO 8501-1, which is the grade specified for coating adhesion in most industrial painting standards. A uniform surface profile improves coating adhesion and corrosion resistance. That is why hanger machines are normally specified immediately before painting.

2. What do overseas buyers call this machine?

The same machine carries different names in different markets, and buyers usually search only the name used in their own region. Knowing the term used in your market helps you compare quotations correctly and avoid buying the wrong machine type.

Market / reference Name buyers search
Asia (China, India, Southeast Asia) hanger type shot blasting machine, hook type shot blasting machine, hook type shot blast machine
North America (Pangborn class) spinner hanger blast machine, hanger hook blast machine
Europe (Rosler, Wheelabrator class) overhead monorail hook machine, monorail blast machine, overhead rail blast machine
Trade catalogues single hook shot blasting machine, double hook shot blasting machine
B2B listings and enquiries Q37 hook type shot blast machine, rotating hook shot blasting machine, Y-track hanger shot blast machine, overhead hanger blast machine

The naming overlap is confirmed by the reference brands themselves. Wheelabrator describes a hanger-type blast machine as “also commonly known as monorail or overhead rail blast machines”. Rosler sells the same principle as a spinner hanger blast machine under the RHBD and RHBE designations, with the RHBD-K version running as a continuous feed spinner hanger. Pangborn calls it a hanger hook blast machine, where the hook rotates or spins under the wheel streams and stops in multiple positions.

Model codes buyers search

The Chinese Q37 series is the dominant code on export listings, and buyers who already know a machine search the size code directly: Q375, Q376 hanger shot blasting machine, Q378, Q3710, Q3720, Q3730 and Q3750. Variants include the QD37 and QT37 designations used by some makers, and the E suffix marks the double hook arrangement. International reference codes include the Wheelabrator SPH spinner hanger and the HB, DHB and HTC overhead monorail machines, and the Rosler RHBD and RHBE series. Brand and model names are referenced for naming and comparison purposes only and are the property of their respective owners.

3. How does a Q37 hook type shot blasting machine work?

The hook carries the workpiece into the sealed chamber, then rotates it slowly while the blast wheels fire. Used abrasive is recovered, cleaned and returned to the wheels, so the circuit runs continuously.

Stage What happens
Loading Parts hung on the hook fixture. Manual or powered chain hoist for heavy loads.
Transfer Hook trolley moves the load along the overhead rail into the chamber. Door closes and interlocks.
Blasting Hook rotates the part. Blast wheels project abrasive from different angles.
Recovery Bucket elevator lifts spent media to the air wash separator. Usable shot returns to the wheels; fines and dust go to the cartridge dust collector.
Unloading Hook returns to the load station. Cycle time is 5 to 15 minutes per batch (indicative).

The overhead monorail hook blaster principle is what makes the machine flexible: change the fixture and the same chamber handles a different part family. Custom fixture design for blasting is included free of charge with every Q37 quotation.

4. Which configurations are available?

The Q37 shot blasting machine series comes in several arrangements, serving single-part job shops and high-volume lines alike.

Configuration Best for Throughput
Single hook (I-type) Job shops, mixed parts, low volume One batch per cycle
Double hook shot blasting machine (Y-type) One hook blasts while the other is loaded. No idle time. Roughly double a single hook machine
Catenary / continuous High-volume lines with a steady part mix Continuous flow
Gantry hanger Very large and heavy workpieces, for example wind power flanges and structural steel assemblies One batch per cycle, high load rating

Need higher output on a mixed part load? A double hook machine is the usual answer. Chamber size, hook lift, trolley drive and blast wheel count are all configurable, and PLC touch-screen control is standard.

5. Which Q37 model fits my workpiece?

Ten standard models cover hook loads from 500 kg to 5000 kg. Cleaning size is the diameter x height of the work envelope inside the chamber. Models with an E suffix are the double hook version of the same chamber size.

Model Hanger arrangement Cleaning size, diameter x height (mm) Hook load capacity (kg)
Q375 Single 500 x 1000 500
Q376 Single 800 x 1200 600
Q376E Double 800 x 1200 600
Q378 Single 1000 x 1500 800
Q378E Double 1000 x 1500 800
Q3710 Single 1200 x 1600 1000
Q3710E Double 1200 x 1600 1000
Q3720 Single 1500 x 2000 2000
Q3730 Single 1500 x 2000 3000
Q3750 Single 2000 x 2500 5000

Send your heaviest part weight and maximum dimensions and we name the model. Workpieces beyond the 5000 kg standard range, or longer than the published envelope, are handled by a custom gantry hanger shot blasting machine engineered to order; those configurations have been supplied at 10,000 kg and above (indicative).

6. What parts does it handle best?

Choose a hanger machine when a part is too heavy, too large, too irregular or too delicate for a tumble or belt machine. Cleaning irregular heavy parts without part-to-part contact is the defining advantage of this configuration.

Part characteristic Typical products
Heavy parts from 30 kg upward Machine tool beds, cylinder blocks, gearbox housings, large castings, bogie frames
Irregular and complex shapes Welded frames, fabricated structures, valve bodies and pump housings, moulds and dies
Delicate and thin-wall parts Aluminum casting finishing, aluminium precision castings, sheet metal housings, welded assemblies where fragile surfaces must be protected during blasting
Large flat and ring-shaped parts Wind power flanges, slewing bearings, large gears, slewing rings
Parts for shot blasting Crankshafts, springs, gears, shafts and pinions

7. When should you not choose a hanger machine?

We say this openly because it saves you money. A hanger machine is the wrong choice in these cases.

  • High-volume small loose parts. Screws, nuts, washers and small stampings need manual hooking every cycle, so labour cost per part becomes unworkable. Choose an inclined drum or a rubber belt tumble shot blasting machine.
  • Flat, thin parts that can lie on a belt. Brake discs, plates and panel parts run faster on a belt. Use a mesh belt shot blasting machine or a rotary table shot blasting machine.
  • Very long sections. Steel plate, pipe, beam and profile suit an H beam shot blasting machine or a roller conveyor pass-through line.
  • Deep blind holes and enclosed cavities. Shot cannot reach long internal passages from outside. These need internal nozzles or robot-guided systems.
  • Extreme cycle-time demands. Thousands of one identical part per shift call for a continuous system or a multi-chamber spinner hanger.

8. Which industries use hanger machines?

Hanger machines suit multi-variety, small-to-medium batch production better than any other blast configuration. One machine handles different shapes simply by changing the hook fixture.

Industry Typical work
Foundries Sand removal, descaling and fettling of steel, iron and aluminium castings
Forging shops Forging scale removal, pre-machining preparation
Construction machinery Excavator, loader and crane components, welded frames, booms
Wind power Tower flanges, hub castings, bearing housings, ring forgings
Steel structure Welded assemblies, beams, lattice components before coating
Mould and die shops Mould cleaning, texturing, rust removal from tool steel
Aluminium foundries Die and gravity castings, alloy housings. Zero impingement protects soft faces.
Automotive and rail Engine blocks, cylinder heads, axle housings, bogie frames, gears
Valve and pump manufacturing Stainless steel valve bodies, pump housings, flanged fittings

10. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a hanger type and a spinner hanger machine?

None. They are the same machine type. Spinner hanger is the North American term used by Pangborn, Sintokogio and Rosler. Overhead monorail hook machine is the European term used by Wheelabrator. Hanger type and hook type are the Asian terms.

What do the Q37 model numbers mean?

The digits after Q37 follow hook load rating. Q375 carries 500 kg, Q376 carries 600 kg, Q378 carries 800 kg, Q3710 carries 1000 kg, Q3720 carries 2000 kg, Q3730 carries 3000 kg and Q3750 carries 5000 kg. An E suffix marks the double hook version of the same chamber, so Q376E and Q376 share the 800 x 1200 mm envelope but Q376E loads one hook while the other blasts. Start from your heaviest part weight and we name the model.

What is the difference between a single hook and a double hook machine?

A single hook machine blasts one batch while the chamber is occupied, so loading is idle time. A double hook Y-type machine runs two hooks on a Y-shaped track: one blasts inside while the other loads outside. Throughput roughly doubles. On the published range the double hook versions are Q376E, Q378E and Q3710E.

What is the maximum workpiece weight?

The published standard range is 500 kg to 5000 kg per hook across models Q375 to Q3750. Heavier work is handled by custom gantry designs engineered to order, which have been supplied at 10,000 kg and above (indicative). The limit is set by the hook fixture, trolley drive and chamber size, all of which are configurable.

Can it clean aluminium castings without damaging them?

Yes, and this is one of its main uses. Parts hang individually and never touch, so there is zero part-to-part impingement. That risk rules out tumble blasting for soft aluminium. Use stainless steel shot or cut wire, and a lower wheel speed, for machined faces.

Can a hanger machine perform shot blasting for cleaning?

Yes. It removes rust and scale from complex parts and prepares them for coating. Specify the target cleanliness, abrasive size and exposure time for the job.

Why not use a tumble blast machine instead?

Tumble machines run cheaper for bulk small parts, but parts strike each other continuously. They cannot handle heavy, large, thin-wall or delicate parts. Under 30 kg, robust and high volume, buy a tumble machine. Above that, use a hanger machine.

Does the machine need a foundation pit?

Most modern hanger type designs are pit-free and install on a level concrete floor. That saves civil work cost and allows relocation. Confirm the requirement for your model when ordering.

What surface cleanliness grade does it achieve?

Sa 2.5 to Sa 3.0 per ISO 8501-1, the grade specified for coating adhesion in most industrial painting standards. The result depends on abrasive type, wheel speed, exposure time and starting condition.

How long is one blast cycle?

Typically 5 to 15 minutes per batch for standard castings and weldments. It depends on part mass, surface condition and target grade. Heavily rusted castings take longer. Cycle time is adjustable through the PLC.
